Box Score PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team erupted for five goals, the most for the Beavers versus a conference opponent since late in the 2018 campaign, and cruised to a 5-1 triumph over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon at Park Family Field.
The Beavers last put up five goals against a conference foe on October 23, 2018, when they dispatched Northern Vermont-Lyndon, 6-0, to close out the 2018 regular season.
UMaine-Farmington improved to 3-1-0 with the victory, including a 1-1-0 mark in North Atlantic Conference play.
Gracien Mukwa struck quickly for the Beavers, putting UMaine-Farmington up 1-0 in the game's second minute off an assist from Eric McCallum. Jimmy Pelletier doubled the Beavers' lead to 2-0 in the seventh minute with Alex Thompson assisting, and Cade McHugh extended the UMaine-Farmington lead to 3-0 with his unassisted score in the 19th minute.
Neither team was able to find the back of the goal over the remainder of the opening half, sending UMaine-Farmington into the intermission with a 3-0 lead.
Mukwa notched his second score of the game in the 58th minute, stretching UMF's lead to 4-0.
UMaine-Farmington lost its bid for a clean sheet for keeper Jonah Sautter when the Owls' Diego Vega struck in the 60th minute. Cassidy Pound answered for the Beavers just shy of two minutes later with his unassisted goal in the 62nd minute.
The Beavers outshot the Owls by a healthy 28-6 margin, with UMPI keeper Keith Mank finishing the day with 10 saves. Sautter (71:42) and Josh Castonguay (18:18) shared time in the UMaine-Farmington goal and combined for one save. UMF tallied 10 corner kicks to UMPI's one.
UMaine-Farmington returns home on Sunday, Sept. 19, to face Castleton University in a non-conference matchup. Game time at Leib Field is slated for 1:00 p.m.
