Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team outshot Castleton University 11-6, and the Beavers scored two first-half goals and held on for the 2-1 victory on Leib Field on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

UMF's (4-1-0, 1-1-0 NAC) first-year midfielder Gracien Mukwa capitalized on a loose ball for his third goal of the season in the sixth minute of the first half to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Mukwa would assist on the eventual game-winner as junior midfielder Jimmy Pelletier beat Spartan goalie Jonathan Maui in the 13th minute giving UMF a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Castleton's Adolphe Alfani converted an assist from Charlie Cisneros that cut the Beavers' lead to one in the 79th minute but the Beavers held on for the win.

UMF junior goalkeeper Jonah Sautter and the Beavers' defense did the rest, turning back Castleton's offense. Sautter made one save to earn the win. Maui turned back three shots for the Spartans.

UMF held an 11-6 advantage in shots, both teams had four corners on the day.

UMF travels to New York on Saturday to play SUNY Cobleskill in a 3:30 p.m. contest. Castleton travels to Dudley, Mass., to take on Nichols College on Tuesday at 3 pm.
