FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington Alpine teams returned to competition for the first time in 2022 with the men's team taking first place and the women's team finishing second in a USCSA Reynolds Division slalom event on Sunday at Titcomb Mountain.
The UMaine-Farmington men tallied 17 place points to win their event, edging out second place Bowdoin College by one point. St. Joseph's College of Maine was third with 19 place points, followed by UMaine in fourth with 26 place points.
Michael Frampton paced the Beavers with a total time of 1:14.04 over his two runs, including a time of 36.97 seconds in his first run, to finish second overall. Nick Quast was the second-fastest Beaver down the mountain with a combined time of 1:20.21 to finish sixth overall, followed by Simon Spear as UMF's third-fastest skier in a time of 1:22.35 to place ninth.
UMaine's George Connors was the fastest men's skier of the day with a combined time of 1:11.44, with both runs faster than 36 seconds.
Colgan O'Keefe (13th, 1:24.84), Nathan Rackliff (19th, 1:33.24), and Hayden Christie (20th, 1:34.77) also completed two runs for the Beavers in the event.
In the women's slalom race, UMaine-Farmington tallied 17 place points in second place, trailing St. Joseph's College of Maine with eight place points. UMaine was third in the event with 39 place points.
Abbey Landry was UMaine-Farmington's top women's finisher in third place overall, after putting together a combined time of 1:26.22 including a time of 42.85 in her first run. Grace Mahmood was the Beavers' second-fastest finisher in 11th place with a combined time of 1:34.02, while Madeline Ten Kate was UMF's third-fastest skier with a combined time of 1:39.85.
Tegan Andrew (10th, 1:41.12) and Jocelyn Stevens (19th, 1:42.13) were the remaining UMaine-Farmington women's skiers to complete two runs.
Both the men's and women's Alpine teams will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 22, when the Beavers head to Newry, Maine, to compete in a Reynolds Division giant slalom event at Sunday River Resort.
