LAKE PLACID, New York - University of Maine at Farmington senior Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) put together a pair of nearly flawless runs en route to a 12th-place finish that helped push the men's alpine team to a seventh-place finish as a team on Friday in the USCSA Slalom National Championship at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York.
The times from the top three finishers from each team are combined into one that determines the team's overall placement. Farmington's top three finishers combined for a total time of 4:52.57 in their seventh-place finish.
Roy paced the Beavers, finishing with a total time of 1:34.21 across his two runs in his 12th-place finish. Roy finished his first run in 48.50 seconds, the 19th-fastest time of any skier on the course. He then cut his time down to 45.71 seconds in his second run, the 11th-fastest time of any competitor.
Fellow senior Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) had another strong performance on Friday, two days after finishing seventh in the Giant Slalom National Championship. Dolan finished 26th overall, completing his two runs in 1:38.57. Dolan finished his first run in 49.90 seconds and his second run in 48.67 seconds.
First-year Magnus Riggs (Fletcher, Vt.) placed 30th overall as the third Beaver to contribute to the team's total time. Riggs finished his first run in 50.86 seconds and his second run in 48.93 seconds to post a total time of 1:39.79.
Junior Chase Raven (Hudson, Wis.) had a strong day as well but was the fourth Beaver to cross the finish line. Raven placed 46th overall, finishing in 1:47.36.
