FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team fell at home in Dearborn Gymnasium on Tuesday evening 88-48 at the hands of Saint Joseph's College.
The first quarter was highly competitive as the game saw four lead changes. After an initial 4-0 run by the Monks, the Beavers would respond with a 6-0 run of their own off a pair of threes from Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) and Jaycie Stevens (Pittston, Maine). The teams would exchange the lead three additional times as the Monks would take a 21-16 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter is where the Monks started to pull away shooting 10-19 from the field, 3-6 from the three-point line, and 8-9 from the free throw line en route to scoring 31 points in the quarter. Hannah Talon (Windham, Maine) scored 16 of her game-high 22 in the quarter. The Monks would take a 23 point lead into halftime.
The Beavers were unable to find the range in the second half, shooting 5-24. The Monks would go onto shoot 13-31 in the second half.
The Beavers were led offensively by Dwyer and Stevens who combined to score 29 points for the Beavers. Dwyer picked up 18 points on 5-10 shooting from the field and 4-7 from three. She also picked up four assists and two rebounds. Stevens tallied 11 points, knocking down a pair of three points. She also grabbed two rebounds, dished out three assists, and picked up three steals.
For the Monks, Talon picked up a game high 22 points to lead five scorers in double-figures.
The Beavers drop to 1-4 on the season while the Monks are now 3-2.
