NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts - The Beavers lost their season opening contest this afternoon 5-0 against Nichols College at the Caryl Newhof Classic tournament hosted by Smith College. The Bison outshot the Beavers 26 -1 in their winning effort, including a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Bridges had a strong performance in goal for the Beavers as she made 14 saves on 19 attempts, good for a .737 goals against average. 

The Bison were led offensively by first year Taylor Breen who tallied a hat-trick in the victory. Graduate student Dana Edwards and Freshman Kaelyn Casper each tallied a goal and an assist in the contest for the Bison.

The Beavers will have a chance to bounce back in their second game of the Caryl Newhof Classic tomorrow morning at 10:30 as they take on Westfield State. A year ago the Beavers upended the Owls 6-1 at the Caryl Newoff Classic.
