Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts - Sunday morning's third place game at the Caryl Newhof Classic, the Westfield State Owls went home with the victory after beating the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers, 6-0.
The Owls took a lead one minute and 34 seconds into the contest on a goal from junior Emily Martin and never looked back. Martin finished the game with two goals and an assist having registered seven shots on goal.
The Owls put pressure on the Beavers throughout the game but sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Bridges (Livermore Falls, Maine) put together another stellar performance registering 21 saves on the 27 shots that she faced.
Westfield State out shot UMF by a final total of 37-0 and registered 21 penalty corners to the Beavers one.
The loss brings Farmington's record to 0-2. With the win Westfield State improves to 1-1. The Owls avenged the 6-1 loss they suffered to the Beavers a season ago.
The Beavers will be back in action this week on Wednesday evening as they travel to Waterville to take on Colby College at 7 PM.
