COBLESKILL, New York - On Friday evening the Beavers went on the road to play the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division leader SUNY Cobleskill without their 3rd leading scorer, Kyle Donlin (Warren, Maine). With Donlin sidelined, someone was going to have to fill his void. Senior guard Nathan Poulin (Williamstown, Vermont) did more than his share in helping push the Beavers to the big 79-73 victory.
Poulin scored a game-high 24 points on 9-13 shooting from the field and 4-8 from long range while also adding five rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes off the bench.
The Fighting Tiger jumped out of the gates quickly with a 7-0 run to take an early lead. The Beavers were able to crack the scoreboard after three scoreless minutes on a jumper from Jack Kane (Cumberland, Maine).
The Beavers went on a quick 8-0 spurt after trailing 20-13 to take their 1st lead of the game with 12 minutes to play in the 1st half. The run was highlighted by a pair of threes from Poulin and a big Kane dunk.
The two teams battled for the final 12 minutes of the half with neither team able to grab a lead larger than five points as the Beavers took a 42-38 lead into halftime.
The Beavers extended their lead to 11 in the first six minutes of the 2nd half sparked by threes from Drew Storey (Cumberland, Maine) and Terion Moss (Portland, Maine).
With the Beavers holding on to a 56-46 lead with 13:42 remaining in the half, Cobleskill went on a 12-4 run to cut the Beaver lead to just two with 7:30 left to play. The Beavers responded, extending their lead by to six with 4:26 to go.
Another run by the Fighting Tigers, this time an 8-2 spurt, tied the game at 70 with 1:37 still to play. A layup from Moss gave the Beavers the lead for good with 1:13 left. The Beavers forced an Iziah Pigott miss on the other end and needed another bucket to help seal the victory. Poulin stepped up to the plate once again hitting the dagger, his 4th three of the night to give the Beavers a five point lead with 20 seconds to play.
Poulin and Silas Mohlar (Readfield, Maine) hit their free throws in the final seconds to close out the Fighting Tigers on Friday evening.
Kane posted his fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Kane also tallied three blocks and two steals. Moss added 15 points and eight assists for the Beavers.
