Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Beavers Drop First Conference Game of the Season, Fall to the Broncos

DELHI, New York - The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team dropped the second game of their New York road trip on Saturday afternoon, 85-63 at the hands of the SUNY Delhi Broncos. The loss for the Beavers drops them to 9-5 on the season and gives them their first loss in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play as they are now 5-1 in conference. The Broncos are now 10-7 on the year and boast a 4-3 record in the NAC.

The Beavers were unable to get much going offensively throughout the contest shooting just 35.4% (23-65) from the field, 26.9% (7-26) from downtown, and 58.8% (10-17) from the free throw line on the afternoon. Delhi quickly opened up a double-digit lead as they began the game on a 14-4 run behind eight points from Pablo Quinones.

But the Broncos did not let off the gas from there. They followed up their initial 14-4 run up with a 14-5 run to run their lead up to 19 with 9:49 left to play in the first half. Buckets from four different Beavers highlighted a 9-0 run over the next two minutes brought the deficit within 10, but that is as close as the Beavers would get.

The Broncos continued their offensive attack and took a 20-point lead into the halftime break.

The second half was more of the same for the Broncos, opening up the half on an 11-2 run to take a 29-point lead. The Beavers drew within 18 on a couple of different occasions and drew within 17 with 3:50 left but were unable to muster a significant offensive run.

Jack Kane (Cumberland, Maine) led the Beavers this afternoon totaling 14 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. Nathan Poulin (Williamstown, Vermont) scored in double figures again for the Beavers, adding 16 points on 5-9 shooting from the field and 3-6 from three.

The Broncos had four players in double figures, led by Jacob Beach's game high 24 points on 9-11 shooting from the field and 3-4 from deep. Lester McCarthy and Quinones each added 15 points for Delhi while Mavenson Therneus chipped in with 11.
