Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big 3rd Quarter Leads Fighting Tigers Over the Beavers

COBLESKILL, New York - On Friday afternoon SUNY Cobleskill outscored the University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team 19-4 in the 3rd quarter en route to a 62-42 victory in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) crossover game.

The 1st half of the game was highly competitive with neither team able to gain a lead larger than five points. The Beavers played a great 1st quarter shooting 50% from both the field and from three. Jacqui Hamilton (Gorham, Maine) shot a perfect 3-3 from the field in the quarter to notch six points and help lead the Beavers to a 16-15 lead.

The 2nd quarter was a little bit of a different story for the Beavers who cooled off shooting 21.1% (4-19) from the field in the quarter. Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) led the Beavers in the quarter with five points and two rebounds. The Fighting Tigers outscored the Beavers 14-11 in the quarter to take a 29-27 lead into halftime.

The third quarter is when things began to unravel for the Beavers as they only connected on one field goal attempt and turned the ball over seven times, being outscored 19-4. Talia Washington led Cobleskill with eight points and four rebounds in the quarter.

The Beavers were unable to draw much closer in the 4th. A Hamilton layup 30 seconds into the quarter cut the deficit to 15, but the Beavers drew no closer. A 9-1 run by the Fighting Tigers over the next three minutes extended the lead to 23 and sealed the deal on a Beaver comeback.

Hamilton scored a team-high 10 points and grabbed seven boards for Farmington. Jaycie Stevens (Pittston, Maine) pitching in eight point while Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) added six on a pair of threes.

The Beavers are now 1-12 on the season and 0-5 in NAC play while the Fighting Tigers are now 9-7 with a 5-1 record in conference play.
