FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team took down SUNY Canton 104-83 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest on Saturday afternoon in Dearborn Gymnasium. The Beavers are now 7-4 overall on the season and 3-0 in NAC play while the Roos are now 4-12 on the season and 2-4 in the conference.
The Beavers had a huge performance from four seniors, Terion Moss (Portland, Maine), Kyle Donlin (Warren, Maine), Jack Kane (Cumberland, Maine), and Nathan Poulin (Williamstown, Vermont) en route to the victory.
Moss finished the game with a game-high 34 points and six assists while shooting 10-14 from the field and 12-14 from the free throw line. Donlin finished the game with a career-high 24 points on 11-13 shooting with a pair of three-pointers. Kane finished with his 3rd double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, adding a pair of blocks as well. Poulin picked up a career-high 20 points on 5-9 shooting from the field, 4-8 from three, and 6-7 from the free throw stripe. Poulin also added eight boards and four assists.
Despite shooting 62.1% (36-58) from the field for the afternoon, the Beavers started the game relatively slow, missing their first four attempts of the game and being held without a bucket for the first 2:42 of the game.Â
Both teams were unable to build much of a lead for the majority of the first half with Canton's biggest lead holding at four points and the Beavers largest lead standing at 8 points during the opening 15 minutes of the game.Â
A jumper from Demerril Levy gave the Roos a 29-26 at the 5:40 mark of the first half leading to a Farmington timeout. Following the timeout, the Beavers responded with a huge 23-6 run to grab a 14-point lead. Three free throws from Juztin Chambers-Phillips with 0.5 seconds left sent the Beavers into half with an 11-point lead.
The Roos came out halftime strong cutting their deficit to five on a pair of occasions and trailed 61-56 with 13:48 left to play. The Beavers went on another huge run, this time a 13-0 spurt to run their lead up to 18 with 10:45 to go. Three consecutive three from the Roos cut the lead back down to 11, but they would draw no closer. The Beavers responded and would take a 23-point lead with just under four minutes to play and polish off the Roos.
The Beavers were able to withstand 15 three-pointers from the Roos en route to the victory. Terrence Fields led five Roos in double figures with 21 points behind 6-8 shooting from deep.
