Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Beavers and Huskies Battle to Scoreless Draw

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington and the University of Southern Maine men's soccer teams battled to a scoreless draw in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Leib Field.

Offense was at a premium as both teams played strong, consistent defense throughout. The Beavers came out of the gates quickly, generating substantial pressure in the opening five minutes of the game. The Beavers drew a pair of corner kicks and recorded four shots, only one of them on frame however.

One of the best opportunities to score came in the 16th minute. The Beavers were able to move the ball up the field connecting several passes on their way out of their defensive zone. The ball found Caleb Kolman (Bixby, Okla.) on the left side of the penalty area who beat one Husky defender before firing a left-footed shot just wide of the goal.

The Huskies had a solid opportunity of their own in the 32 minute when Beaver sophomore goalkeeper Jack Wormald (Salisbury, N.H.) got caught out of his goal and a shot from Exauce Lenge got behind him. Luckily for the Beavers senior defender Brady Stockwell (Manchester, Maine) was standing right on the post to clear the ball off the line and keep the score 0-0.

The Huskies had a pair of corner kicks in the final two minutes of the 1st half but were unable to score.

The 2nd half was more of the same for both teams as neither was able to hold sustained pressure.

In the 70th minute first-year forward Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) looked to have broken the scoreless tie but his shot went just wide of the bottom right corner keeping the game scoreless.

Colin Albert had a pair of shots in the closing minutes as USM scrambled for the game-winner. Neither shot got on frame and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

The Beavers held an advantage in shots (9-7) and corner kicks (7-2). Both teams had a pair of shots on goal.

Following the tie, the Beavers record moves to 4-4-2 while USM now sits at 4-5-2.
