Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Beavers Fall Under the Lights at Husson

BANGOR, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team traveled to Bangor this evening to take on Husson University in an important North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest. The Eagles topped the Beavers, 3-1 as the Beavers fell to 4-2 in conference play.

After a scoreless opening 40 minutes, the Eagles found the back of the net in the 41st minute as Mario Alvarez bent in a corner kick from the right corner to help the Eagles take a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles were able to control a majority of the play in the 1st half, outshooting the Beavers 11-1 in the half.

Husson was able to quickly double their lead in the opening 75 seconds of the 2nd half. The Beavers were unable to clear a bouncing ball just outside the penalty area as it made its way to Pablo Maroto. Maroto ripped a left-footed shot on goal that sophomore goalkeeper Jack Wormald (Salisbury, N.H.) made a lunging save on. After Wormald's initial save the ball dropped right to Josh Nadeau who put in the rebound to make it 2-0 Husson early in the 2nd half.

First-year forward Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) brought the Beavers back within one when he converted a breakaway chance to make it 2-1 in the 59th minute. An Eagles turnover sent Adow in behind the Husson defense. Adow showed great poise in placing a well-executed shot to the bottom left corner for his 10th goal of the season.

Alvarez had the answer for the Eagles just two minutes later. After a foul deep in the Beavers defensive territory, Husson was awarded a free kick on the right wing deep in the corner. Alvarez took the kick and similarly to his goal in the 1st half, bent in a left-footed shot over the head of Wormald that extended the Eagles lead to 3-1.

The Beavers had a pair of outstanding opportunities to cut into the deficit but were denied on each. The first opportunity came in the 70th minute when Adow was once again in behind the Eagles defense. This time his shot was saved by Alex Rechsteiner. The next opportunity came in the 76th minute after the Beavers were awarded a free kick right at the top of the penalty area. Zach Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine) took the kick and bent a low shot around the Eagles wall but his shot clanked off the right post as the Beavers were once again denied.

With the victory Husson improved to 8-4-3 with a 4-1 record in NAC play.

Wormald finished with four saves for the Beavers while Rechsteiner made just one for the Eagles.

The Eagles held advantages in shots (16-6), shots on goal (7-2), and corner kicks (7-2).]
