CASTINE, Maine - Annabella Scolaro scored three goals to help Maine Maritime Academy past the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team, 5-0 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.
Scolaro scored her first goal of the game in the 11th minute when she powered in a goal off a corner kick. The Beavers were able to clear the original ball off the goal line but the clear attempt was blocked by Scolaro who quickly found the back of the net to give the Mariners an early lead.
Scolaro found the back of the goal again in the 37th minute off another Mariner corner. Sierra Hoops took the corner for the Mariners who sent the ball towards the back post where Scolaro was able to run right through it, getting enough on it to direct it into the back of the net.
Kirra Magana added to the Mariner lead just five minutes into the second half. After a Beaver foul that set up a Mariner free kick from the right wing, Abby Wong lifted a cross into the box bringing Beaver goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) off her goal line. The ball got over Gonya's head allowing Magana to head the ball into the back of the net for the Mariners 3rd goal of the game.
The Mariners tallied a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to make it a 5-0 game.
The Beavers were unable to get a lot of offense going throughout the game, tallying all four of their shots in the 2nd half, including three in the final ten minutes.
Gonya made six saves in goal for the Beavers while Isa Thesing recorded three saves for the Mariners.
The Mariners held advantages in shots (17-4), shots on goals (11-3) and corner kicks (9-2)
