Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Beavers Down Fighting Tigers, 4-0

FARMINGTON, Maine - On Saturday afternoon the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team controlled the game right from opening minutes, routing SUNY Cobleskill, 4-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) cross-over play.

The Beavers held the majority of the possession throughout the game, as the Fighting Tigers seemed content to sit back in their defensive end and play for the counter attack. The Beavers worked the ball around looking for openings in the Cobleskill defense. After a scoreless opening 30 minutes, senior Audrey Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine) found the back of the net for the 8th time this season. The Beavers were awarded a corner kick which Fletcher took from the left corner. Her cross landed inside the six yard box and deflected off a Fighting Tiger defender into the back of the net to give the Beavers the 1-0 lead.

Senior Kiley Merritt (Lisbon Falls, Maine) doubled the Beaver lead in the 39th minute when she one-timed a beautiful pass from Grace White (Waldoboro, Maine) into the back of the net. White sent a cross toward the back post that was beautifully placed past three Fighting Tiger defenders, finding the wide-open Merritt for the goal.

Taking a 2-0 lead into the 2nd half, it didn't take long for Fletcher to make it 3-0. Junior Abby Lash (Waldoboro, Maine) sent a cross into the box from the left wing that was headed away by Cobleskill. Fletcher was the first one to the bouncing ball, got behind it and ripped a lofted half-volley on net that got over the head of Cobleskill goalkeeper Dory Gosselin.

In the 62nd minute Lash added a goal of her own to make it 4-0 Beavers. The Fighting Tigers were looking to connect passes on their way out the defensive zone but with the muddy field conditions, they were unable to link up leading to a take away by Hannah Wilbur. Wilbur found Lash in the center of the field who made touch to her left, beating a defender before lifting a shot over the head of Gosselin for her 2nd goal of the season.

The Beavers continued to control possession and pace of play, not allowing the Fighting Tigers to register a shot for the entirety of the contest. The Beavers held advantages in shots (24-0), shots on goal (12-0), and corner kicks (2-0).

Gosselin made eight saves for the Fighting Tigers.

The Beavers improved to 5-6-1 on the season with the victory.
