Farmington Drops Non-Conference Road Contest to St. Joe’s

STANDISH, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team fell on the road this evening to St. Joseph's College, 84-33 in a non-conference battle in Alfond Gymnasium on the campus of St. Joe's.

The Monks had a big 1st quarter and separated themselves early from the Beavers, leading by 19 at the end of the opening quarter. After the teams traded buckets over the opening two minutes of play, the Monks finished the quarter on a 24-5 run. Grace Ramsdell was instrumental in the first quarter for the Beavers, tallying six of her game-high 19 points in the quarter. Elisabeth Stapelfeld scored all six of her points in the opening quarter to help the Monks grow their lead. 

The Monks continued to grow their lead in the 2nd quarter, out-scoring the Beavers 21-11 in the quarter, opening up a 29-point lead heading into halftime. Ramsdell kept her game rolling in the quarter, tallying eight more points in the quarter. Angelica Hurley pitched in with six points in the quarter for the Monks. 

The St. Joe's offense kept rolling in the 2nd half while the Beavers offense continued to struggle from the field. As a team the Beavers shot just 20.5% (9-44) from the field and 5.3% (1-19) from three-point range. Senior captain Jaycie Stevens (Pittston, Maine) hit the lone three-pointer of the game for the Beavers midway through the 2nd quarter. 

Sarah Poli (Benton, Maine) tallied a team-high eight points and grabbed five rebounds for Farmington. Jalyn Stacey (West Baldwin, Maine) had a strong game off the bench, picking up seven points on 2-3 shooting from the field and hitting all three of her free throws. Reigning North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie of the Week Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) and Stevens each added six points for the Beavers.

Ramsdell scored 19 points on 6-10 shooting in 21 minutes of play. Hurley finished with 18 points, shooting 6-9 from the field and 3-4 from downtown. Logan Brown also finished in double-digits for St. Joe's, scoring ten points off the bench, knocking down a pair of threes. The Monks finished the game shooting 48.4% (30-62) from the field and 44.4% (8-18) from beyond the arc. 

The Monks controlled the rebound (38-24) and turnover (19-11) advantages en route to their 3rd victory of the season.

UP NEXT

The Beavers return to action after Thanksgiving, taking on Southern Maine Community College in a scrimmage on Sunday afternoon in Dearborn Gymnasium at 4 PM. The Beavers next regular season game is next Wednesday at 5:30 PM on the road against the University of Southern Maine.
