Men's Alpine Skiing

Alpine: Men Sit in 4th, Women in 9th after Day One of Eastern Regionals

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington alpine teams competed in day one of the Eastern Championships today at Sugarloaf. Today's event was a slalom race. After today, the men's team sits in 4th place overall and the women sit in 9th. The top six teams for each gender clinch a spot at the National Championships in March.

Five skiers from each competing team are able to compete, with the top-three times being counted towards the teams overall time.

Men's Race

Jacob Roy (Frenchville, Maine) was the quickest Beaver on the hill today, finishing with a two-run cumulative time of 1:26.79. Roy finished his 1st run in 41.62 seconds and sat in 11th place. He finished his 2nd run in 45.17 and jumped up to 10th.

Simon Spear (Bootbay, Maine) finished less than a second behind Roy in 1:27.48 to claim 13th place. Spears' 1st run of 41.55 seconds was the 10th fastest. He finished his 2nd run in 45.94 seconds.

Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) came in 18th place overall with a time of 1:29.22. Roy finished his 1st run in 43.14 seconds and his 2nd run in 46.08 seconds.

Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine) finished in 26th place overall, finishing with a two-run time of 1:31.03. Lindelof finished his 1st run with a time of 43.71 seconds and his 2nd in 47.32 seconds. 

Colgan O'Keefe (Westchester, N.Y.) finished in 49th place overall with a time of 1:55.23. O'Keefe sat in 34th place overall after his 1st run time of 44.28 seconds. He struggled in his 2nd run, finishing in 1:10.95.

The Roy brothers and Spear combined for a time of 4:23.50 seconds.

Women's Race

Lauren Kessen (Sussex, Wisc.) came in 16th place overall to pace the Beavers. She did so, finishing with a two-run time of 1:41.93. Kessen finished her 1st run in 51.04 seconds before cutting some time off her 2nd run, finishing in 50.89 seconds.

Grace Mahmood (Oxford, Conn.) was the 2nd Beaver contributing to their team time, finishing in 37th place overall with a two-run time of 1:55.34. Mahmood was consistent in her two runs, finishing her 1st in 57.31 seconds and 2nd in 58.03 seconds.

Fallon Smith (Nelson, N.H.) and Tegan Andrew (Goffstown, N.H.) finished in 54th and 55th place overall. Smith finished her two-run in 2:13.28. She responded after her 1:13.65 1st run to cut 14 seconds off from her time and finish in 59.63 seconds in her 2nd run. Andrew had a two-run time of 2:18.75. 

Kessen, Mahmood, and Smith combined for a three-skier time of 5:50.55.

UP NEXT

The Beavers will be back at Sugarloaf tomorrow for the giant slalom portion of the Eastern Regionals as each the men and the women eye a trip to California for the National Championship.
