Maddy White’s Seven Three’s Not Enough as Beavers Fall to Maine Maritime

CASTINE, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington junior guard Maddy White (Waldoboro, Maine) hit a career-high seven three-pointers and scored a career-high 23 points in the Beavers 78-49 loss on the road this afternoon to Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest in Castine.

A pair of Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) layups got the Beavers on the board early in the 1st quarter as they trailed 5-4 in the opening minutes. The Mariners broke the game open with a 19-2 run over the next eight minutes before one of White's seven threes beat the buzzer and put an end to the Mariner spurt. But the Mariners held a 24-9 lead after the quarter

Another Mariner run, 11-2 this time, to open the 2nd quarter increased their lead to 24 in the opening three minutes. Once again White had the answer for the Beavers, hitting a pair of threes on back to back possessions, cutting the deficit to 18. The Beavers were unable to draw any closer, falling behind 44-24 at halftime.

The Mariners opened up the 3rd quarter strong with a 10-2 run, extending their lead to 28. The Beavers battled too, fighting within 23 before a Sydney Briscoe jumper gave the Mariners a 25-point lead heading into the 4th quarter.

A pair of threes from Dwyer and White to open up the 4th quarter pulled the Beavers within 19. A quick 6-0 run from the Mariners over the next 40 seconds halted the Beavers momentum and gave Maine Maritime a 25-point lead once again. Another three from White brought the deficit back to 22, but the Beavers would draw no closer.

White led the way for the Beavers with her 23 points while shooting 70% from beyond the arc. Jacqui Hamilton (Gorham, Maine) added 12 points off the bench while Dwyer chipped in with nine points.

Maria Barela scored a team-high 21 points on 8-13 shooting from the field and 4-6 from three to lead the Mariners. Lauren Plissey added 16 points while Erianna Moore pitched in with 11 points and nine rebounds.

The Beavers dropped to 2-19 on the season with a 1-11 record in NAC play. The Mariners are now 16-5 on the year with an 11-0 record in the NAC.
