Beavers Start Quick, Don’t Look Back, Rout Mariners 102-61

FARMINGTON, Maine - Wednesday night in Dearborn Gymnasium belonged to the University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team. The Beavers started off on fire from the field and cruised to their 16th win of the season. The Beavers took down Maine Maritime 102-61 to improve to 12-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.

Farmington grabbed momentum quickly on the opening possession of the game when Drew Storey (Cumberland, Maine) drove baseline and threw down a monster dunk, getting the crowd and his teammates going early. The Beavers continued on a 14-2 run over the opening 4:20 of the contest forcing the Mariners to call a timeout. 

A Connor Tuerff three made the score 14-5 before the Beavers went on another long run. This time an 18-5 run to open up a 22-point lead with 9:38 still to play in the 1st half. 

The Mariners brought their deficit back to 19 at 38-19 with 6:54 left to play. The Beavers once again went on one of their long run to extend their lead even further. This time they went on a 17-5 run, going up by 31 with 2:30 left to play in the half. Farmington held onto a 58-31 lead going into halftime.

The Beavers put on a show in the first half, shooting 53.66% (22-41) from the field and 55.56%, hitting 10 threes. In the first half alone, Terion Moss (Portland, Maine) scored 18 points on 6-10 shooting from the field and 3-5 from three, adding five rebounds and four assists. Jack Kane also registered a double-double in just the first half, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds. Nathan Poulin (Williamstown, Vermont) added 11 points while Kyle Donlin (Warren, Maine) pitched in with nine points and six rebounds in the half. 

The Mariners cut the Beavers lead to 23 in the opening minutes of the second half but once again the Beavers responded, going on an 11-0 run to take a 34-point lead. 

The Beavers extended their rotations in the second half. Moss played the opening eight minutes of the half scoring 10 more points to finish with 28 for the evening. Kyle Pasieniuk (Kennebunk, Maine) drilled a pair of threes and finished with 10 points in just the second half. David Gadsby (Blue Hill, Maine) came off the bench, drilled a three and converted a three-point play much to the pleasure of his teammates on the bench. Poulin continued his strong play in the second half, finishing with 19 points and eight boards. 

Markus Ramirez and Malachi Reincke each scored 12 points to pace the Mariners.

The Beavers will have a chance to honor their eight seniors on Saturday afternoon when they host Thomas College. Tip-off is set for 3 pm.
