DAVENPORT, Fla. - The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader 11-2 and 7-1 at the hands of Elms College.
Game One
The Beavers looked to have things rolling early when Jonny Pruett (Waterford, Maine) and Nate Coombs (Thomaston, Maine) hit back-to-back singles to lead off the game and give the Beavers runners on 1st and 2nd with Hunter LaBossiere (Oxford, Maine) coming up to the plate. LaBossiere hit a line drive on the screws directly to the shortstop who started an inning ending triple play.
The Blazers scored seven runs in the bottom of the 1st on three hits. Junior starting pitcher Chris Albert (Bradley, Maine) labored through the innings, walking three and hitting a batter in the inning.
The Beavers were able to get a run back in the top of the 2nd inning when 3rd baseman Will Cauchon (Kingston, Mass.) singled home Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) who reached on a single of his own.
Elms tacked on another run in the bottom of the 3rd when George Chaya Jr. singled home AJ Cook.
The Beavers were held scoreless until the top of the 7th inning when Tyler Lambert (Lyman, Maine), Derek Gendreau (Hampden, Maine), and Danny Terhune (South Burlington, Vermont) each singled to load the bases with nobody out. Coombs grounded out to 2nd base to score Callister Montembeau (Kennebunk, Maine) who pinch ran for Lambert.
The Beavers hit the ball hard all game, scattering ten hits but could only muster two runs. Pruett went 3-4 while Terhune was 2-3 to lead the Beavers. On the bump, Albert took the loss going three innings, giving up seven hits and four earned while striking out three. Lucas Tuttle (Framingham, Mass.) gave up one earned in two innings of work out of the bullpen. Kyle Sawyer (Saco, Maine) made his collegiate debut giving up a pair of runs in one inning pitched.
Austin Roy and Cook each had a pair of hits for the Blazers. Roy picked up a double and a triple while Cook also doubled. Devin Kazarian picked up the win in relief, going four innings scattering five hits and surrendering just one run.
Game Two
As the away team in game two, Elms got the scoring started early as Cook led off the game with a walk, Chaya Jr. followed with a single and Tyler Galenski laced a two-RBI double to quickly give Blazers a 2-0 lead with still nobody out in the 1st inning. Sophomore starting pitcher Sam Wrigley (Farmington, Maine) was able to work out of the jam, stranding Galenski at 3rd and holding Elms to just two runs.
In the top of the 2nd inning, Elms tacked on four more runs on three hits. Galenski once again delivered the big blow, another two-RBI double.
After a scoreless middle innings, the Blazers were able to tack on one more in the top of the 6th off from freshman Sam Parsell (Newington, Conn.). CJ Moriarty recorded the RBI on a double that plated Chase Prestia.
The Beavers got a run back in the bottom of the 6th when they loaded the bases with one out. Cauchon drove in LaBossiere on a ground out.
Wrigley took the loss on the mound. Logan Holcomb (Hebron, Conn.) pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief and TJ Dorn (Westbrook, Maine) also pitched a scoreless inning.
The Beavers hit the ball hard all game but only had six hits to show for. Pruett, LaBossiere, Sargent, Parsell, Gendreau, and Cal Tibbitts (Bath, Maine) each recorded singles.

The Beavers take on SUNY Poly in a doubleheader tomorrow morning at Lake Myrtle in Auburndale, Florida. First pitch for game one is set for 1 PM.
