Big 2nd Half Pushes Vikings Past Beavers

SALEM, Mass. - The Salem State University women's lacrosse team outscored the University of Maine at Farmington 9-1 in the 2nd half en route to a 18-5 victory. 

The Vikings scored the first three goals of the game, including the first just nine seconds into the game. A goal from freshman Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) at 4:59 of the 1st quarter to get the Beavers on the board and make it a 3-1 game. 

Salem State responded to the McMinis goal, scoring three in a row to extend their lead out to 6-1 with 9:40 left to play in the 2nd quarter. Freshman Emma Bourget (Gardiner, Maine) got the Beavers right back into the game with a pair of goals just a minute and a half apart to make it a 6-3 game. 

After a pair of Viking goals made it an 8-3 game, McMinis found the back of the net for the 2nd time, making it 8-5. Taylor Sujko scored in the final minute of the 1st half to give the Vikings a 9-5 lead heading into halftime. 

The Vikings turned up the heat in the 2nd half, notching nine goals by six different goal scorers. Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) scored the lone goal in the 2nd half for the Beavers off a feed from Kaya Backman (South Portland, Maine).

McMinis finished the game with two goals and an assist. Trefsger added a goal and a pair of assists while Bourget knotted two goals. Kate Nowell (York, Maine) registered seven save in net for the Beavers. 

Sujko paced the Viking with five goals and an assist. Mackenzie Schmink added four goals and an assist while Madison White pitched in with three goals and three assists. Carson Reidy picked up 13 saves in goal for Salem State.
