LYNDONVILLE, Vermont - The University of Maine at Farmington put up a 20 spot on Northern Vermont-Lyndon this afternoon to pick up their 1st win of the season.
Katie Cushing got the Hornets on the scoreboard first with a goal just 22 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Beavers would not be behind long as Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) scored just 39 seconds later to knot the game at one and be the 1st of 11 straight goals scored by Farmington.
Trefsger tallied two more goals in the 1st period to pick up her 1st hat-trick of the season. Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) and Kaya Backman (South Portland, Maine) also picked up a pair of goals in the period. Emilie Crocker (Edgecomb, Maine) scored her 1st collegiate goal at the 3:41 mark of the 1st quarter.
After an Emma Bourget (Gardiner, Maine) goal to open the 2nd period scoring, Grace Erskine (Elizabeth, Maine) found the back of the net for the 1st time in her career to give the Beavers an 11-1 lead.
Isabel Bourgeois scored back to back goals 2:40 apart to stop some of the Beavers momentum. But goals from Riley Forrest (Portland, Maine) and Emma Brown (Naples, Maine) in the final minute of the 1st half gave the Beavers a 10-goal advantage once again.
Backman opened the scoring in the 3rd period to notch the hat-trick. Trefsger tacked on two more goals in the final minutes of the 3rd to help the Beavers take an 18-5 lead into the 4th period.
Emily Stinson (Alfred, Maine) scored her 1st goal of the season 31 seconds into the 4th. Allie Bliss (Underhill, Vermont) found the back of the net for the 1st time in her collegiate career to finish off the scoring for Farmington.
Katie Cushing put in three goals in the 2nd half for the Hornets.
