BANGOR, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team dropped both ends of Sunday's doubleheader to finish the season with a 7-31 record and 4-12 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.
Game One
The Eagles took a quick lead in the top of the 1st inning on RBI doubles from Jackson Curtis and Ethan Stoddard. Stoddard came into score on an error as the Eagles took a quick 3-0 lead.
The Beavers had one of their better opportunities to score in the bottom of the 2nd when Danny Terhune (South Burlington, Vermont) and Derek Gendreau (Hampden, Maine) tallied back-to-back one out singles. Eagles starting pitcher Brandon Brunell beared down to get out of the inning, stranding Terhune and Gendreau at 1st and 2nd.
The Eagles tallied single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. In the 3rd Hunter Curtis doubled to lead off the inning and came into score on a wild pitch. Jackson Curtis picked up his 2nd RBI double in the 4th inning to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead.
Three straight singles to start the top of the 5th pushed across another run for Husson and gave them runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Brett Riffe and Kobe Rogerson picked up RBIs in the inning to extend the lead to 8-0.
The Beavers looked primed to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 5th as Gendreau and Cal Tibbitts (Bath, Maine) led off with consecutive singles to once again give the Beavers runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Jonny Pruett (Waterford, Maine) ripped a liner to right field that was caught by Hunter Curtis who threw Gendreau out at 3rd who was trying to tag up on the play.
Sully Beers picked up a two-RBI triple in the 7th to make it a 10-0 game.
Gendreau finished with a pair of hits while Will Cauchon (Kingston, Mass.) added a double for the Beavers. Will Harriman (Biddeford, Maine) took the loss giving up seven earned on nine hits.
Brunell picked up his 3rd win of the season, going six innings, giving up four hits and striking out three. Hunter Curtis finished 3-3 with a double and two runs scored and Jackson Curtis was 2-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored to pace the Eagles.
Game Two
Husson once again scored early in game two, putting a three spot on the board for the second time in the 1st innings in as many games. Akira Warren picked up and RBI on a fielder's choice and two runs came in to score on an error with two outs to make it 3-0.
The Eagles tacked on four runs in the top of the 2nd inning as both Jackson and Hunter Curtis picked up where they left off in game one as both picked up a two-RBI double to make it 7-0 Husson.
The Beavers battled back in the bottom half of the 2nd inning. Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) reached on an error, Nate Coombs (Thomaston, Maine) singled, and Sam Parsell (Newington, Conn.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no one out. Gendreau hit into a fielder's choice bringing in Bloch. Hunter LaBossiere (Oxford, Maine) ripped a two-RBI single bringing in Coombs and Parsell to make it 7-3 after two innings.
Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the 5th when Hunter Curtis led off with a double and came in to score on an RBI double from Keegan Cyr.
Jackson Curtis tacked on a two-run home run down the line in right field in the top of the 6th inning to take a 10-3 lead.
Coombs finished 3-3 with a double and a run scored and LaBossiere was 2-4 with two RBIs to lead the Beavers. Aaron Goschke (Gorham, Maine) was charged with the loss going five innings giving up eight runs (six earned) on six hits while striking out five.
Beers picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles, going 3.1 innings, giving up three hits, and striking out three. Jackson Curtis was 3-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored to lead the offensive attack for Husson.
