RUMFORD, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine team opened up their 2024 USCSA season today with a slalom event hosted at Black Mountain. The Beavers were originally scheduled to compete in a two day event with giant slalom having been scheduled for Saturday. But due to inclement weather, that event was canceled and the Beavers opened up their 2024 campaign today. The Beavers grabbed 2nd place as a team in a highly competitive field.

Sophomore Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) led the Beavers on the slopes today, finishing his two runs with a total time of 1:28.56 to claim 4th place as an individual. Roy put together a pair of consistent runs, finishing his first in 44.52 seconds and his second in 44.04 seconds.

He found another gear in his 2nd run, cutting two seconds off his time and finishing in 44.22 seconds, the fifth fastest time of any skier on their 2nd run. Lindelof finished with a cumulative two-run time of 1:30.44 and in 7th place overall.

Roy, O'Keefe, and Lindelof combined for a total time of 4:28.43 and grabbed 17 place points. Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) and Declan Varnerin (Stow, Mass.) finished just tenths of a second behind Lindelof, finishing in 9th and 10th place respectively. Dolan finished with a two-run time of 1:30.81 while Varnerin finished his two runs in 1:30.87.
