Men’s Alpine Sweeps Podium on Saturday, Sweeps the Weekend

BRIDGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine ski team swept the podium in Saturday's giant slalom event at Pleasant Mountain. Jacob Roy (Frenchville, Maine), Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine), and Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine) all found themselves on the podium after their stellar performances.

Jacob Roy grabbed his second gold medal of the season after blowing out the field on Saturday. Roy posted a sub-40 seconds first run, registering a time of 39.82, the fastest of any skier. On his second run, Roy finished with a time of 41.04 seconds to post a cumulative time of 1:20.86, 2.3 seconds faster than his brother, Sam who finished in 2nd place.

Sam Roy posted a pair of smooth runs to grab his second podium of the season. Roy posted a first run time of 41.08, the second fastest of any competitor. He doubled down on his second run, finishing in 42.08 seconds. Roy's two-run time came in at 1:23.16 in his 2nd place effort.

Lindelof finished just behind Sam Roy after posting a combined time of 1:23.50. Lindelof finished his first run in 42.20 and sat in 7th place. He kicked it into a new gear in his second run, posting a time of 41.30 seconds, the third fastest run of any skier.

Declan Varnerin (Stow, Mass.) finished inside the top-ten, finishing in 9th place individually. Varnerin had a pair of nearly identical runs, posting a 42.75 second first run and a 42.47 on his second run to post a two-run time of 1:25.67.

Colgan O'Keefe (Westchester, N.Y.) finished just outside the top-ten in 11th place after a two-run time of 1:25.67.

UP NEXT

The Beavers head to New Hampshire next weekend. Saturday's slalom event will be hosted at Pats Peak and Sunday's giant slalom event will be held at Mittersill Alpine Resort.
