Offensive Struggles Lead Beavers to Loss at VTSU-Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vermont - The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team couldn't get anything offensively on Saturday afternoon, falling at the hands of Vermont State University-Lyndon, 57-46.

The Beavers offensive struggles started right from the opening tip, shooting just 2-17 from the field in the 1st quarter and fell behind 15-6 after one quarter.

Emily Small (Cumberland, Maine) nailed a jumper and Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) converted an and-one on consecutive possessions as the Beavers opened up the 2nd quarter on a quick 5-0 spurt to haul within four.

After the Hornets extended their lead to 23-13, the Beavers closed out the half on a 7-2 run to enter halftime trailing by just five.

Dow sparked a quick 7-0 run to open the 2nd half, hitting a layup and nailing a three on back-to-back possessions, helping give the Beavers their first lead of the ballgame. The Beavers lead was short lived as Riann Fortin scored on straight possessions, including an and-one to spark an 12-0 Hornets run to open up an 11-point lead.

Dow hit a three at the buzzer to end the 3rd quarter to cut the Beaver deficit to nine entering the 4th quarter.

The Beavers and the Hornets traded buckets in the 4th quarter as Farmington was unable to trim their deficit by less than eight points.

The Beavers shot just 26.6% (17-64) from the field in the ballgame and just 23.1% (6-26) from beyond the arc.
