Adow’s Hat-Trick Leads Beavers to a Win in Regular Season Finale

FARMINGTON, Maine - Sophomore standout Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) scored three goals to help propel the Beavers to a 4-0 victory at home against the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Wednesday afternoon in what was the regular season finale.

The Records:

The Beavers finished their season with a 7-6-3 overall record and a 6-4 record in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The Owls dropped to 2-11-1, with an 0-8-1 record in conference play following the loss.

How it Happened:

It didn't take long for Adow to give the Beavers the lead, scoring his first goal in the 10th minute. A JJ Greenlaw (Farmington, Maine) throw-in from the right wing drifted into the box, where it found Adow's foot. He effortlessly slid a shot into the side netting to stake Farmington to a 1-0 lead.

Adow doubled the Beavers' lead two and a half minutes later, curling a free kick around the Owls' wall from the top of the penalty area.

The Beavers controlled the majority of the pressure throughout the game, but the Owls had a strong chance to cut the lead in half with ten minutes left to play in the opening half. A ball that pinballed around the Beavers' defensive zone found Nyden Reed, who ripped a half-volley past sophomore goalkeeper Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine), who was out of his goal attempting to clear the loose ball. Luckily for the Beavers, center back Caelan Billings (Sullivan, Maine) was in the right place at the right time, blocking Reed's shot with his chest to keep the Owls off the scoreboard.

Adow completed his hat trick in the 61st minute, making it a 3-0 game. The goal came from a corner kick that first-year Owen Dakin (Windham, Maine) attempted with a bicycle kick. Dakin's attempt went directly to Adow, who turned and slid the ball into the back of the net. With these three goals, Adow ties his season total from last year with 14.

Billings added to the Beavers' lead in the 75th minute, heading home a corner kick that ricocheted off the head of a UMPI defender. This was Billings' first goal of the season.

Team Stats:

The Beavers held advantages in shots (22-13), shots on goal (9-4), and corner kicks (9-2) en route to the victory.

The Goalkeepers:

Leach started and played the first 75 minutes, making two saves before giving way to Hunter Frost (Monmouth, Maine), who made one save in the final 15 minutes. Samuel Paladino made five saves for the Owls.

UP NEXT:

The Beavers will be back in action on November 2nd in a NAC Quarterfinal, with the opponent and location to be announced at a later date.
