Thomas Scores Five in the 1st Half to Topple Beavers

FARMINGTON, Maine - The visiting Thomas College men's soccer team scored five goals in the opening half of Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) en route to topping the University of Maine at Farmington for the second time this season, 6-3.

The Records:

Following the loss, the Beavers dropped to 5-4-2 on the season with a 4-2-0 record in NAC play. The Terriers improved their record to 8-1-1 overall and remain unbeaten with a 6-0-0 record in conference play.

How it Happened:

Joshua Joseph go the scoring going for Thomas just eight minutes into the game, narrowly beating Beavers' sophomore goalkeeper Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) to a thru ball off the foot of David Ivarrson, just touching the ball past Leach and into the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead.

Joseph scored his 2nd goal of the game 18 minutes later depositing a shot past Leach off a feed from Micky Woodrom, doubling the Terriers lead.

Mohamed Adow (Lewiston, Maine) cut the Beavers' deficit in half just two and a half minutes later, making a fantastic individual effort, weaving through a pair of Thomas defenders before firing a left footed shot into the side netting.

Farmington seemed to have the momentum clearly on their side following Adow's goal, generating three corner kicks and five shots in the following seven minutes of play. But Joseph was tripped up in the box, setting up a penalty shot for the Terriers. Joseph took the shot, and sent a shot right down the middle as Leach dove to his right to notch the hat trick.

Andrew Hodgins scored just 35 seconds later for Thomas who expanded their lead to 4-1 with five minutes left in the 1st half. The scoring in the half wasn't done however as Woodrow found the back of the net in the 44th minute as the Terriers took a 5-1 lead into halftime.

Farmington was able to get one back in the opening minutes of the 2nd half as Abdilahi Abdi (Lewiston, Maine) took a throw-in from Ahmed Abdow (Lewiston, Maine) past a Terrier defender before firing a rocket into the back of the net, beat Thomas goalkeeper Jamie Fischer shortside to make it 5-2.

Farmington carried a large portion of the play in the 2nd half, generating numerous strong scoring opportunities. Despite carrying a majority of the play, Farmington surrendered a goal in the 81st minute as Tre Burgess delivered a long ball to Zayin Clugh who powered in a shot past Leach.

The Beavers didn't go quietly. Adow scored his 2nd goal just two and a half minutes later to make it a 6-3 game.

Team Stats:

Farmington held advantages in shots (23-16), shots on goal (12-8), and corner kicks (8-7) in the loss.

The Goalkeepers:
