Men’s Cross Country Places 12th at NCAA Regional Championship, Castaldo Earns All-Region Honors

HOPKINTON, N.H. - The University of Maine at Farmington men's cross country team tied their best finish at the NCAA East Regional Championship in program history this afternoon, earning a 12th place finish. Senior standout Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) earned All-Region honors placing 35th individually.

Beaver Runners:

As has been the case throughout the season, the Beavers were once again paced on the course by Castaldo. The two-time North Atlantic Conference (NAC) champion, broke the UMF program record for an 8K, finishing with a time of 25:54.74 to place 35th overall. The top-35 finishers at each NCAA Regional Championship receive All-Region honors. Castaldo became the first runner in UMF cross country history to receive the accolade.

Sophomore Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) finished with a strong time of 27:04.7 and placed 70th overall amongst the field that consisted of 228 racers. The time for LaFlamme was his best time for an 8K in his career.

Senior Jimmy Reel (Nashua, N.H.) and junior James Riley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished 93rd and 94th respectively. Reel finished with a time of 27:29.7 while Riley finished just seconds behind him, posting a time of 27:31.4.

Sophomore Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) was the 5th Beaver to contribute to the team's score, placing 106th overall with a strong time of 27:54.1.

Senior Connor Freeman (Bath, Maine) and first-year Alexander Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.) also competed today for the Beavers but did not contribute to the team's placing. Freeman placed 115th with a time of 28:06.7 while Gagnon placed 140th overall in 29:09.8.

Today's meet concludes the 2024 cross country season for the Beavers.
