The Records:
The Beavers entered the game with a 1-1 record for the season. The Moose dropped to 4-2 after this afternoon's loss.
How It Happened:
The Moose came out strong in the first quarter, fueled by the aggressive play of Alisyn Alley. Alley scored 10 of the Moose's 13 first-quarter points, shooting 3-for-8 from the field and knocking down all three of her free throws.
After a three-pointer by Molly Hay helped the Moose regain a 20-19 lead midway through the second quarter, the Beavers answered with a quick 7-0 run to open up a six-point advantage with 4:51 left in the half. Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) scored five of the seven points, including a big three-pointer off a dime from first-year point guard Makayla Emerson (Bradley, Maine).
Sophomore forward Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) was a force on the defensive end during the first half, recording three steals, a block, and nine rebounds. Dow's efforts helped the Beavers take a 33-27 lead into halftime.
Sophomore Melissa Mayo (Bridgton, Maine) opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run of her own, hitting two three-pointers and adding a fastbreak layup to give Farmington a 40-27 lead.
The Moose responded to Mayo's spurt with a 7-0 run of their own to trim the Beavers' lead to just six. However, Farmington closed out the quarter on a 10-2 run, with six of those points coming from Dow, and extended their lead to 50-36 entering the final period.
The Beavers maintained their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter, securing their second victory of the season.
