Husson Scores Early, Tops Farmington in NAC Quarterfinal

BANGOR, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team conceded a goal just 27 seconds into Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) quarterfinal contest and could not recover from the early deficit, ultimately falling to the Eagles 8-0.

Husson earned the top seed in the NAC East Division, while the Beavers entered as the four seed. With this loss, the Beavers' 2024 season comes to an end. The Eagles, on the other hand, advance to Sunday afternoon's NAC semifinal against Lesley University, who triumphed over Maine Maritime in penalty kicks.

How It Happened:

Kate Harriman put the Eagles on the board in the 1st minute with a left-footed strike that found the left corner, assisted by Rylee Speed.

Harriman doubled the Eagles' lead in the 16th minute, receiving a pass from Madison Higgins that put her behind the Beavers' backline. She maneuvered around Beavers' junior goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) before sliding the ball into the net to make it 2-0.

Caley Nault and Addi Laslie scored just three minutes apart in the 30th and 33rd minutes, extending the Eagles' lead to four goals by halftime.

The Eagles dominated possession for most of the half, outshooting the Beavers 15-2 in the opening 45 minutes.

Harriman completed her hat trick in the 64th minute, converting a penalty kick after the Beavers were whistled for a foul in the box.

Husson continued to build on their lead in the closing minutes, as three different Eagles scored in the final nine minutes of play, bringing the score to 8-0. Sami Orest, Higgins, and Laura Martel each netted a goal in those closing moments.

Team Stats:

The Eagles outshot the Beavers 34-3 overall, including 20-1 in shots on goal. Husson also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks on their way to victory.

The Goalkeepers:

Gonya faced significant pressure throughout the match but managed to turn away nine shots and thwart numerous other Eagle opportunities. Madison Weigler made one save to secure the shutout victory.
