WATERVILLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's track and field team opened their 2024-25 indoor season at the Elm City Classic this afternoon, hosted by Colby College. The Beavers performed strongly, placing 2nd overall with a total of 128 points. Colby took first place with 160 points, while Saint Joseph's College finished 3rd and Thomas College came in 4th.
Top Beaver Performances
Junior Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) had an outstanding season opener. Johnson won both the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump. She qualified for the New England Championship after jumping 10.56 meters in the triple jump. In the 60-meter hurdles, she finished with a time of 9.26 seconds, easily topping the field. This time was a personal best for Johnson. She also placed 4th overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.66 seconds. Lastly, Johnson cleared 2.05 meters in the pole vault, earning 2nd place in the event.
Sophomore Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) picked up right where she left off during the cross-country season, winning the mile run with an impressive time of 5:44.07. She narrowly beat her teammate Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine), who finished 2nd with a time of 5:44.25.
Senior Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) performed well in the pentathlon, finishing 4th overall with 2,117 points. Her score set a school record and earned five points for the team. Burr also placed 6th in the shot put with a throw of 9.07 meters.
Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) and Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine) finished 4th and 5th, respectively, in the 60 meters. Perry crossed the line just nine hundredths of a second ahead of Todd, posting a time of 8.58 seconds. Todd finished in 8.67 seconds.
Junior Eve Poteet (Fair Hill, Maryland) placed 2nd in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:35.23.
First-year Emma Syphers (Bangor, Maine) made a strong debut in her collegiate career, finishing 2nd in the long jump and 4th in the high jump. Syphers' long jump was measured at 4.92 meters, and her high jump cleared 1.36 meters. She also placed 4th in the triple jump with a distance of 9.80 meters.
Senior Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) earned 3rd place in the weight throw with a throw of 11.69 meters.
