AUBURN, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine team placed 2nd at today's slalom event at Lost Valley. Saturday's event was the penultimate event of the season with the regular season finale to take place tomorrow at Titcomb.
The Reynolds Division held a Mental Health Awareness event at today's race and set up a
GOFUNDME page to support the Tree Street Youth organization in Lewiston. Their mission is to "encourage leadership, learning, exploration, and growth" through a no-cost afterschool program. Please consider donating to this worthy cause!
Saturday's event was highly competitive with the top-ten skiers being separated by just three seconds in time.
Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) paced the Beavers on the hill Saturday. Roy posted a two run time of 59.03 to just narrowly miss on a podium appearance. Roy finished his first run with a time of 29.59 seconds. He followed up that run with a run of 29.44 seconds on his second run.
Roy's older brother, Jacob Roy (Frenchville, Maine) finished just .18 seconds behind to claim 5th overall. Roy posted a cumulative time of 59.21 seconds. His first run came in at 29.32 seconds as he sat in 3rd place. Roy's second run was clocked at 29.89 seconds.
Sophomore Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) was the third Beaver to contribute to the team's combined score. Dolan finished 7th overall with a two-run time of 59.80 seconds. Dolan posted a first run time of 29.81 seconds and a second run time of 29.99 seconds.
Sam Roy, Jacob Roy, and Dolan combined to post a cumulative time of 2:58.04, just 1.41 seconds behind St. Joe's to take 2nd place. The Monks posted a time of 2:56.63 in their winning effort. William Strobeck of SJC took home the gold medal with a two-run time of 58.13 seconds.
Nick Quast (Westchester, N.Y.) and Declan Varnerin (Stow, Mass.) each placed inside the top-ten but did not contribute to the team's score. Quast placed 8th with a time of 1:00.22 while Varnerin was 10th with a time of 1:01.36.

The Beavers will wrap up their regular season tomorrow at Titcomb Mountain. Tomorrow's race will be a combined alpine race with one run of slalom and one run of giant slalom. Tomorrow's race will also be Senior Day.
