Men’s Alpine Finishes 2nd at Pats Peak

HENNIKER, N.H. - The University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine team struggled through today's slalom event at Pats Peak in Henniker, New Hampshire. The Beavers had five DNF's or DSQ's en route to their 2nd place finish.

Saint Joseph's College took home 1st place as a team and swept the podium with their top-three skiers placing 1st-3rd.

Colgan O'Keefe (Westchester, N.Y.) paced the Beavers on the course today, placing just outside of the podium, finishing in 4th place with a two-run time of 1:12.44. O'Keefe sat in 6th place after his first run, but moved down to 4th place after his second run. O'Keefe's first run was clocked at 33.49 while his second run came in at 38.95 seconds.

Just behind O'Keefe was first-year Declan Varnerin (Stow, Mass.) Varnerin placed 5th overall with a cumulative time of 1:14.54. Varnerin's first run came in at 34.40 seconds before his second run was clocked at 40.14 seconds.

Jay Schwartz (Bedford, Mass.) finished just .32 seconds behind Varnerin to take home 6th place today. Schwartz sat in 14th place after his first run was timed at 35.17 seconds. But Schwartz posted the 7th fastest second run at 39.69 seconds to move up to 6th place.

Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) finished inside the top-ten, grabbing 9th place overall with a two-run time of 1:16.26. Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) sat in 3rd overall after his first run of 32.11 seconds, but received a DSQ in his second run and would not contribute to the team's score.

O'Keefe, Varnerin, and Schwartz combined to post a team time of 3:41.84. Jack Price grabbed 1st overall with a two-run time of 1:10.84. Logan Davis grabbed 2nd and Caleb Gorton finished 3rd individually. Price, Davis, and Gorton posted a cumulative time of 3:33.89 to grab 1st place as a team.

The Beavers will compete in the giant slalom portion of the competition tomorrow morning at Mittersill Alpine Resort.
