LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine team finished with a gritty 4th place in today's giant slalom on the first day of the men's alpine USCSA National Championship in Lake Placid, New York.
In a field of more than 131 racers, only 85 finished due to the extremely sloppy and difficult course conditions. Due to the poor conditions, the USCSA decided to call the event after a single run. Despite the treacherous conditions, four Beavers toughed it out and finished their run, combining to post a time of 3:49.48.
The Beavers were led on the course by sophomore Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine), who finished his run with a time of 1:13.11, just 5.25 seconds behind Lorenzo Mencaccini of Castleton. Lindelof's finish marks one of the best in UMF alpine history at a National event.
Fellow sophomore Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine), finished just a second and a half behind Lindelof, posting a time of 1:14.66 to place 15th overall.
Senior Colgan O'Keefe (Westchester, N.Y.), grinded out a 44th place finish, posting a time of 1:21.71. O'Keefe's run came later in the day after a pair of weather delays as the course had begun to get more and more beat up.
Similar to O'Keefe, Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine), had his run come later in the day as the course began to get more difficult to maneuver. Dolan was one of the final racers through the course but was able to post an impressive time of 1:24.06 to finish 53rd overall. The top-three finishers contribute to the team's overall time; Dolan's time was not counted.
Jacob Roy (Frenchville, Maine), was one of the 46 racers to wipe out and register a DNF.
