Men’s Alpine Closes out Nationals with a Bronze Medal in Dual Slalom

LAKE PLACID, New York - The University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine team closed out their phenomenal week at the USCSA National Championships in style with a 3rd place finish in today's dual slalom event to add the bronze medal to their trophy case.

Dual slalom is a different race that the Beavers do not compete in during the regular season. Dual slalom is an event with two teams going head to head down the hill with five skiers from each team going head to head with five skiers from the opponent. The team that has to most skiers win their individual race, advance on to the next round in a bracket format.

The Beavers opened their day competing against Colorado Mesa. The Beavers five-man team of Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine), Jacob Roy (Frenchville, Maine), Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine), Colgan O'Keefe (Westchester, N.Y.), and Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) had no problem racing away with the first round victory.

The Beavers advanced to the quarterfinals and took on St. Joe's. The Beavers fell behind after the first three racers, 2-1. But O'Keefe and Dolan came through in the clutch, squeaking out narrow victories to help the Beavers advance into the semifinals against Rocky Mountain College and guarantee themselves a shot at a medal placement.

Rocky Mountain College was able to take down the Beavers and send Farmington into the consolation round against Northern Michigan where the winner took home the bronze medal.

The Beavers finished what they started, taking down Northern Michigan with relative ease to claim 3rd place and bring yet another award back to Farmington.

The Beavers concluded their week with a 5th place finish as a team at the USCSA National Championships between the giant slalom and slalom races, a 3rd place finish in the dual slalom, as well as All-Americans in Sam Roy and Lindelof.
