Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Mariners Storm Past Beavers

CASTINE, Maine - Maine Maritime Academy's women's lacrosse team took control early, scoring 11 goals in just the 1st quarter en route to topping the University of Maine at Farmington, 20-3 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest.

The Mariners took command of the game right from the opening whistle as Rebecca Caron converted a free-position shot just 54 seconds into the game to stake Maine Maritime to an early 1-0 lead.

Two-time reigning NAC Player of the Year Hazel Stoddard proved to be a handful for the Beavers to contain defensively. Stoddard finished the game with seven goals and seven assists. After Caron's opening marker, Stoddard scored or assisted on six of the Mariners remaining ten 1st quarter goals. Stoddard and Caron each recorded hat tricks in the opening quarter as the Mariners offense took a commanding lead.

The Mariners held possession for a majority of the 1st quarter, not allowing the Beavers to register a shot in the quarter. Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) registered the Beavers first shot of the contest 4:24 into the 2nd quarter.

Stoddard kept control of the game, picking up her 4th goal and adding two more assists in the 2nd quarter, extending the Mariners lead to 14-0 heading into halftime.

Stoddard found Lillian Diversi on two separate occasions, a minute and 24 seconds apart midway through the 3rd quarter to pick up her 6th and 7th assists of the game. Stoddard scored another goal and Francis Spangler added one of her own as the Mariners lead swelled to 18-0 through 45 minutes.

After being held scoreless for the first three quarters, the Beaver offense began to find their footing in the 4th quarter. Sadie Harvey (Bethel, Maine) found the back of the net on a free-position shot to get the Beavers on the board. Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) scored a man-up goal and Ashlee Farrar (South Paris, Maine) added a man-down goal to make it an 18-3 game.

Goals from Stoddard and Carmichael in the final minutes as the Mariners posted the 20-3 NAC victory.

Outside of Stoddard, Caron and Lillian Diversi each carried large loads offensively for Maine Maritime. Caron finished with three goals and an assist while Diversi tallied four goals and an assist. Ella Bowes made five saves in net to pick up the victory.

Trefsger, Farrar, and Harvey scored the lone goals for the Beavers. Farrar added and assist while Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) and Trefsgers added a pair of ground balls to lead the team. Skye Cotnoir (West Gardiner, Maine) and Kate Nowell (York, Maine) combined to make nine saves in net for Farmington.
