Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Beavers Breeze Past Hornets

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team made quick work of the visiting Vermont State University at Lyndon, 14-1 to claim their first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory of the season.

Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) got the Beavers on the board early, scoring her first goal of the day just over two minutes into the game. The goal from Trefsger was her 13th of the season.

The Beavers played strong, connected defense, making life difficult for the Hornets all game long. The Beaver defense forced 28 Lyndon turnovers and often turned those turnovers into quick strikes on the defensive end. As was the case on Farmington's 2nd goal of the game. Allie Bliss (Underhill, Vermont) created one of her game-high five caused turnovers, leading to a quick transition into offense where Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) raced past several Hornet defenders to find the back on the net for the 23rd time this season.

Two minutes after the McMinis goal, Trefsger sniped a free-position shot in the back of the net for her 2nd goal of the day.

McMinis added her 2nd goal of the opening period, taking a beautiful pass from Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) in front of the net and beating the Hornet goalie to extend Farmington's lead to 4-0.

After another Lyndon turnover in the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter, Trefsger made the Hornets pay, finding the back of the net for the 3rd time.

Emilie Crocker (Edgecomb, Maine) got in on the scoring action, scoring her 5th goal this season at the 9:58 mark of the 2nd quarter to extend the Beaver lead to 6-0.

Ashlee Farrar (South Paris, Maine) added a beautifully executed free-position shot to give Farmington a 7-0 lead heading into halftime.

The opening ten minutes of the 2nd half were scoreless but Dunn found the back of the next for the 2nd time this season sparking a quick three goal burst by the Beavers over a two and a half minute span. Crocker and Farrar each added their 2nd goals of the game helping Farmington gain a 10-0 advantage.

The Beavers used another two and half minute stretch in the opening moments of the 4th quarter to extend their lead up to 13. Trefsger scored her game-high 4th goal while Dunn tallied her 2nd and Riley Forrest (Portland, Maine) made the transition to the offensive end of the field to get into the scoring act for the 2nd time this season.

Inside five minutes to go, Grace Campbell (Corinth, Maine) took a pass from Dunn and ripped a bounce shot over the shoulder of the Hornets goalkeeper for her 1st collegiate goal.

The Hornets showed a lot of grit and would not be shutout. Thea Cooper found the back of the net on a beautiful dish from Kiara Mack to get the Hornets on the scoreboard and make it a 14-1 game.

The Beavers got contributions from several players up and down the roster. Trefsger tallied a game-high four goals, added a pair of assists while also adding a game-high five draw controls and five ground balls. Dunn finished with two goals and two assists. Farrar, McMinis, and Crocker each added a pair of goals. Forrest finished with a goal, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Kt Lebakken (Anoka, Minn.) added four ground balls. Kate Nowell (York, Maine) made a couple of high quality saves and finished with three.
