Roos too Much for Farmington

FARMINGTON, Maine - The visiting SUNY Canton Kangaroos proved to be too much for the host University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular season contest at Leib Field in Farmington. The Roos started early and never looked back, cruising to the 17-3 victory.

The Roos were able to control the play from the get go, controlling the draw circle and keeping the ball away from the Beavers for the majority of the contest. Canton held a steep 21-2 advantage in draw controls and were able to hold the ball in the offensive end of the field for a high majority of the game.

The Roos notched their first goal of the game just 69 seconds in as Caroline Nappi took a beautiful feed from Morgan Montgomery to put Canton on the board for the first time.

Canton added four more goals over the next five minutes of game time to take a 5-0 just six minutes and two seconds into the game. The four goals came from four different players as Lindsey Wunder, Aayliah White, Nappi and Samantha Dayter all found the back of the net.

Maddy Caron and Abbey Albro added goals late in the 1st quarter to help the Roos take a 7-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes of play.

The 2nd quarter was more of the same, Nappi scored 40 seconds in to pick up the hat trick. A minute later, Caron scored her 2nd goal of the game while the Roos were down a man, making it a 9-0 game.

Caron and Jaedyn Awan scored 56 seconds apart later in the 2nd quarter, extending Canton's lead to 11-0 heading into halftime.

Caron executed a pair of free position shots in the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter to register her 4th and 5th goals of the game and Nappi picked up her 4th goal of the game midway through the 3rd to extend Canton's lead to 14-0.

Goals from Caron, Dayter, and Montgomery to open the 4th made it a 17-0 game, but the Beavers did not go quietly. After struggling to muster offense for much of the game, a goal from junior Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) with 3:01 left in the game got Farmington on the board for the first time and sparked a little offensive spurt for the Beavers.

Emilie Crocker (Edgecomb, Maine) scored the Beavers 2nd goal of the game on a fantastic individual effort, coming from behind the net, making a diving scoop shot that found the back of the net. Ashlee Farrar (South Paris, Maine) scored just 14 seconds later, winning the draw and going coast to coast to make it a 17-3 game.

Despite being under heavy pressure for a majority of the game, the Beaver defense hung tough and forced 20 Canton turnovers. Kate Nowell (York, Maine) was phenomenal in net, making 12 saves.
