FRANKLIN, Mass. — The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team struggled to keep up with the fast-paced Dean College Bulldogs on Sunday morning, falling 6-1 on the road.
The Records:
The Beavers remain in search of their first win of the season, dropping to 0-4. Dean improves to 2-2 with the victory.
How It Happened:
Dean's offense got off to a quick start, scoring two goals in the opening ten minutes. The first came from Tristyn Williams, who found the net off a penalty corner with an assist from Emma Gragen at the 5:17 mark.
Just four minutes later, Gragen scored a goal of her own, assisted by Emily Yazzetti. Farmington had one penalty corner in the first period but did not register a shot.
Yazzetti added a goal in the 24th minute, taking a pass from Sydnee Ramos and beating Beavers sophomore goalkeeper
Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) to make it 3-0.
The Beavers began to apply some offensive pressure towards the end of the first half, registering two shots and earning a penalty corner but failed to score.
Farmington carried their momentum into the second half. They earned a penalty corner two minutes in, leading to an
Elizabeth Kendall (Piscataquis, Maine) shot saved by Allie
Stockwell. The Beavers secured the rebound, and
Gabby Vincentsen (Bristol, Maine) found
Winter Adams (Rockland, Maine), who scored her first goal of the season to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Beavers continued to press, but Stockwell made a crucial save on a penalty corner shot by
Allie Bliss, preserving the two-goal lead.
Dean quickly regained control, putting sustained pressure on Grant. Despite two fantastic saves by Grant, she was unable to stop Williams from scoring her second goal of the game.
Yazzetti scored her second goal in the closing seconds of the third quarter, giving Dean a 5-1 lead after 45 minutes.
Sydnee Ramos scored just 29 seconds into the fourth quarter to finalize the score at 6-1.
Team Stats:
Dean held advantages in shots (16-7), shots on goal (10-5), and penalty corners (12-5) in their second win of the season.
The Goalkeepers:
Grant made four saves on ten shots on goal for Farmington. Stockwell played the first 37 minutes, recording three saves to earn the win, while Sara Gardner made one save in the final 23 minutes.
