Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Beavers Shoot Past Badgers

JOHNSON, Vermont — The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team connected on 15 three-pointers, just one shy of their season high, shooting an efficient 46.9% from the field en route to a 103-83 victory on the road in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday evening.

The Records:
The win marks the Beavers' fourth consecutive victory, pushing them above .500 for the first time this season at 8-7 overall. The win also improved their NAC record to 5-1. The Badgers, meanwhile, fell to 3-12 on the season and 0-4 in NAC play.

How It Happened:
After a slow offensive start for both teams, with the Badgers holding a narrow 6-4 lead just over three minutes into the game, Farmington went on a 13-4 run over the next four and a half minutes to take a seven-point lead. Senior guard Simon Chadbourne (Portland, Maine) sparked the run, hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Matthew Carter responded for the Badgers, leading an 8-0 run to give Johnson a one-point lead with 9:25 left in the first half. Carter contributed a deep three, a mid-range jumper, and a pair of free throws during the run.

Farmington regained control in the final five minutes of the first half, pushing their lead back to seven. Chadbourne hit another three, followed by a triple from Will Harriman (Biddeford, Maine). However, Johnson responded with a three-pointer from Darone Frierson to cut the lead to four, then Frierson hit a pair of free throws to give the Badgers the lead again.

With the game tied at 38 and under two and a half minutes to play in the half, Farmington closed the half on a 12-4 run to take an eight-point lead into the break. Dylan Griffin (Saco, Maine) and Harriman each hit deep threes to spark the Beavers' surge.

The Badgers hung tough early in the second half, cutting Farmington's lead to just four points with 15 minutes remaining.

However, a three-pointer from sophomore Brayden St. Pierre (Readfield, Maine) ignited an 8-0 run for the Beavers, helping extend their lead to 12 points. A jumper from Lukas Sward brought the Badgers back to within single digits at 72-64 with 11:27 to play, but that would be as close as Johnson would get. Farmington responded with a 17-4 run to open up a 21-point advantage, effectively sealing the game. Sophomore forward Jason Reynolds (Winslow, Maine) had a big second half, scoring ten points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Stats of the Game:
Farmington shot an efficient 52.3% (34-for-65) from the field and 15-for-32 (46.9%) from three-point range. Johnson shot 44.6% (29-for-65) from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 21.1% (4-for-19).
