Women’s Track and Field Take 5th Place at Bates Invitational

LEWISTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's track and field team totaled 37 points en route to a fifth place finish at the Bates Invitational on Saturday. The University of New Hampshire grabbed first totaling 304.5 points to run away from the competition.

Top Performances:

Junior Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) had a strong day totaling nine points across two events for the Beavers. Johnson placed third overall in the triple jump with her best attempt measuring in at 10.54 meters to score six points. She scored three points in the 60 meters placing sixth with a time of 8.32 seconds.

Sophomore Lina Martinez-Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) notched six points in a third place effort in the 800 meters. Martinez-Nocito finished the race with a time of 2:39.76. She continued her solid effort with a fifth place finish in the mile picking up four more points for Farmington. She raced to a time of 5:35.66.

Eve Poteet (Fair Hill, Maryland) just missed scoring in the mile placing ninth with a time of 5:53.25. She was less than three seconds behind scoring.

Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine), Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), Emma Syphers (Bangor, Maine), and Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) combined for a time of 1:58.58 in the 4x200 meter relay to finish fourth and score four points.

Burr scored a point in an eighth place finish in the high jump by clearing the 1.41 meter threshold. She recorded another point with an eight place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.58 meters in her final attempt.

Syphers placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.61 meters notching two points for the Beavers in the process. In that same event, Perry placed tenth with a jump of 4.39 meters. Syphers added four more points with a fifth place finish in the triple jump. Syphers' best jump was marked at 9.62 meters.

Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) garnered seventh place in the weight throw with a distance of 12.93 meters in her fourth attempt to score two points for the Beavers.

Farmington will be back in action on January 29th at the Colby College Mini Meet.
