FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team kicked off 2025 with a dominant 86-38 victory over SUNY Delhi in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Monday evening at Dearborn Gymnasium.
The Records:
With the win, Farmington improved to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in NAC play. The Broncos fell to 0-12 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
How It Happened:
SUNY Delhi scored the first points of the game on a jumper by Samantha Miller. However, the Beavers quickly responded with a 17-0 run, opening up a 15-point lead and taking control of the game. Farmington's defense fueled its offensive surge, forcing ten Bronco turnovers in the first ten minutes, which resulted in 16 points for the Beavers.
Farmington faced little resistance in the opening quarter, taking a commanding 29-6 lead into the second. Makayla Emerson (Bradley, Maine) came off the bench to contribute seven points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the first quarter. Sarah Poli (Benton, Maine) added six points, and Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) chipped in five, helping Farmington build an early lead.
The Beavers continued to dominate in the second quarter, outscoring SUNY Delhi 24-7 and extending their lead to 53-13 by halftime. Farmington's defensive pressure limited the Broncos to just 6-of-27 shooting in the first half and forced 18 turnovers.
Farmington maintained a lead of 38 points or more for the remainder of the game, securing their first win of the second half of the regular season.
The Beavers spread the wealth offensively, as 11 of the 12 players who entered the game scored, each player grabbed at least one rebound, and all but one player recorded an assist. Four players finished in double figures, while four others scored five or more points.
Stats of the Game:
Farmington shot 42.7% (35-for-82) from the field, while holding SUNY Delhi to just 25.8% (16-for-62). The Beavers dominated the paint, outscoring the Broncos 54-12. Farmington also held a 57-41 advantage on the boards, including 19 offensive rebounds. Farmington's defense forced 29 turnovers, which resulted in 33 points off turnovers.
Leaders – Farmington:
- First-year Jazmine Pingree (Jay, Maine) led the Beavers with 16 points and nine rebounds in just 17 minutes off the bench. She shot 7-of-12 from the field.
- Sarah Poli added 16 points on an efficient 7-for-10 shooting, along with six rebounds and two steals in only 13 minutes.
- Jaydn Pingree (Jay, Maine) contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and two steals, shooting 5-for-8 from the floor.
Leaders – SUNY Delhi:
- Alexandra Reus led the Broncos with a game-high 18 points, shooting 8-for-17 from the floor and 2-for-6 from beyond the arc.
- Shekera Fullenwilder added nine points and six rebounds.
- Samantha Miller chipped in with seven points and nine boards.
