Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lesley Powers Past Beavers

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team could not keep pace with the high-powered offense of Lesley University on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

The Records:

The loss marks the Beavers' second conference defeat of the season, dropping them to 4-2-1 in NAC play and 7-5-1 overall. Lesley improved to 5-3-6 overall and 4-0-2 in the NAC with the win.

How It Happened:

The Lynx scored a pair of goals in both halves, controlling possession for much of the match to put away the Beavers.

Senior goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine), coming off a career performance against the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday where she made a career-high 16 saves, was outstanding once again on Saturday. Facing pressure early, Gonya turned away the first four shots she faced.

Lesley broke through in the 22nd minute, converting off a well-executed corner kick. Bethany Slivka sent a low ball to the front post, where Elsie Koehler redirected it into the net to make it 1-0.

The Lynx doubled their lead in the 37th minute, again capitalizing on a corner kick from Slivka. This time, she lofted a high cross to the back post that Rachel Weinzimer headed off the crossbar and in, extending the lead to 2-0.

Lesley continued to push the pace in the second half, adding a third goal in the 60th minute. Kylie Chagnon finished a pass from Slivka, who beat a defender down the right side before sliding the ball across the box for Chagnon to slot into the lower-left corner.

Slivka completed her standout day in the 68th minute, scoring a goal of her own off an assist from Chagnon, capping the 4-0 victory.

Stats of the Game:
