BANGOR, Maine – Despite an early lead and a pair of first-half goals, the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team fell just short in a 4-3 loss to Husson University in a North Atlantic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.

The Records:

With the loss, Farmington drops to 4-7-3, while Husson improves to 10-4-1.

How It Happened:

Farmington came out strong in the opening minutes, breaking through in the ninth minute when Owen Spera (Gorham, Maine) found the back of the net with a low finish inside the left post, assisted by JJ Greenlaw (Farmington, Maine).

The Eagles quickly countered in the 18th minute, as Miguel Díaz Alvarez slotted home a shot to even the score at 1-1. Undeterred, the Beavers regained the lead in the 22nd minute when Greenlaw buried a penalty kick to put UMF ahead 2-1.

Husson found the equalizer early in the second half after being awarded a penalty, with Díaz Alvarez converting again to tie the game at 2-2 in the 53rd minute. The Eagles capitalized moments later as César Soucre curled in a go-ahead strike to make it 3-2.

Playing a man down after a red card in the 53rd minute, Farmington continued to battle but faced mounting pressure from the hosts. Husson extended its advantage in the 67th minute when Jorge Mora finished a cross from Nico Puerta, making it 4-2.

The Beavers refused to go quietly, and Garrett Gendreau (Waterville, Maine) converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to pull UMF within one. Despite several late pushes, Husson held off the rally to escape with the 4-3 victory.
