Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Beavers Breeze Past Lynx to Get Back Into the Win Column

LEXINGTON, Massachusetts - The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team bounced back from a tough defeat on Friday evening with a wire-to-wire win over Lesley University on Saturday afternoon. Farmington dominated from the jump and cruised to a 74-27 victory to get back in the win column.

The Records:

Farmington picked up its fifth win of the season, improving to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. Lesley fell to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in NAC play.

How it Happened:

Farmington got contributions from up and down the roster on Saturday to earn the lopsided victory. All 14 healthy players received at least nine minutes of action, and 12 of the 14 recorded at least one field goal.

The game opened in unconventional fashion as the Lynx were assessed a technical foul due to an inoperable shot clock. First-year Hailey Lynch (Falmouth, Mass.), making her first collegiate start, knocked down the free throw. On the first possession of the game, junior guard Audrey Mackie (South Thomaston, Maine) hit a pull-up jumper in the lane, and the rout was on.

Sophomore guard Makayla Emerson (Bradley, Maine) connected on a pair of threes on Farmington's final two possessions of the first quarter, pushing the lead to 20-5 after ten minutes of play.

The second quarter brought more of the same. Junior guard Melissa Mayo (Bridgton, Maine) got hot on both ends of the floor, shooting a perfect 3-for-3—including two threes—while also recording four steals in the period. Her efforts helped the Beavers extend the lead to 39-12 heading into halftime.

Farmington continued to roll in the second half, outscoring the Lynx 35-15 to secure the 47-point victory. The Beavers forced 26 turnovers that resulted in 28 points, one of the biggest differences in the game.
