BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) and senior Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) each set new program records this afternoon at the Harvard Invitational. Martinez Nocito set the record in the mile, while Burr established a new mark in the 400 meters.
Against a highly competitive field, the Beavers held their own across multiple events. Martinez Nocito finished 11th overall in the mile with a time of 5:29.56. Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) also competed in the mile, clocking in at 5:41.63 to place 19th overall.
Burr, who already held the program record in the 400 meters, easily broke her own record with a time of 1:01.76, finishing 22nd overall among several Division I athletes.
Burr, Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), and Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) all raced in the 200 meters, with the trio finishing within one and a half seconds of each other. Burr placed 22nd overall with a time of 27.50 seconds. Todd finished 25th with a time of 28.57 seconds, while Perry placed 28th with a time of 28.93 seconds.
Junior Eve Poteet (Fair Hill, Maryland) ran a strong race in the 5,000 meters, finishing 8th overall with a time of 20:14.06.
Junior Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) placed 10th overall in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 9.53 seconds in the preliminary round. The top-eight times advanced to the finals. Johnson also placed 12th in the triple jump, where her best attempt measured 10.17 meters.
In the long jump, first-year Emma Syphers (Bangor, Maine) advanced to the finals and finished 8th overall with her best jump measuring 4.85 meters.
Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) placed 15th in the weight throw, with her best attempt measuring 12.39 meters. The top-eight performers advanced to the finals.
