BRUNSWICK, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington senior Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) set a school record and qualified for the New England Championship in the Pentathlon this weekend at the Lynn Ruddy Invitational, hosted by Bowdoin College. As a team, the Beavers finished in 7th place with 54 points.
Top Beaver Performances:
Burr competed in the pentathlon on Friday evening, starting the two-day event on a strong note. She finished the pentathlon with 2,896 points, qualifying for the New England Championship and setting a new program record. On Saturday, Burr returned to set another program record, running the 60-meter dash in 8.08 seconds. She finished 1st in the pentathlon and 4th in the 60 meters.
Junior Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) set a personal best in the 200 meters, finishing in 27.67 seconds to place 4th overall. Johnson also added a 3rd place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.61 seconds. In total, Johnson earned 11 points across the two events.
First-year Monica Lewis (Windham, Maine) scored three points, placing 6th in the 600 meters with a time of 2:09.46. Lewis also finished 7th in the 800 meters, earning two additional points.
Sophomore Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) posted a strong time of 2:30.02, earning 8 points and finishing 2nd in the 800 meters. She finished less than a second and a half behind Meg Zitzmann of Bowdoin, who took 1st.
Junior Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Maryland) won the 5,000 meters with a time of 20:01.18, finishing more than 14 seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher. Poteet earned 10 points with the victory.
Senior Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) earned 5 points, placing 4th in the weight throw with a best attempt of 12.70 meters.
