BEND, Oregon - University of Maine at Farmington women's freeski athlete Tegan Andrew (Goffstown, N.H) finished 7th overall in the Skier Cross National Championship on Wednesday at Mount Bachelor.
The event begins with time trials to seed all of the competitors to then place them into a bracket of heats with four racers in each heat. From there, the top-two racers in each heat advance to the subsequent heat until a winner is crowned.
In the time trials, Andrew finished with a time of 29.89 seconds, earning the ninth overall seed. Andrew was placed into a heat with 56th seeded Josephine Rich, 24th seeded Laura Lee Baldwin, and 41st seeded Katelyn Gallagher. Andrew outpaced the opposition, finishing the heat first to easily advance into the next round.
In the round of 32, Andrew was matched up with Lee Baldwin, eighth seeded Gemma Hill and 25th seeded Madison Rausch. Andrew finished that hit second with Hill finishing first, to move onto the quarterfinal round.
Moving into the quarterfinals, Andrew faced off with Hill, top-seeded Caitlyn Bumpers, and 33rd seeded Gillian Maynard. Andrew once again finished behind Hill, but raced past Bumpers to pull-off the upset and advance into the semifinal round and guarantee herself two more races.
Andrew moved into the semifinal round, but did not place in the top-two moving her into the "Small Final". In the small final, Andrew finished third in the heat, securing seventh place overall.
