Men’s Snowboarding Takes 2nd in Slopestyle National Championship

BEND, Oregon - The University of Maine at Farmington had three athletes place inside the top-20 en route to earning second place in the Snowboard Slopestyle National Championship. The trio of Ezra Mathieu (Lewiston, Maine), Tucker Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine), and Caelan Billings (Sullivan, Maine) notched 39 place points to place second, just one place point in front of San Diego State University.

The event was originally scheduled to have a qualification and Finals round, but due to weather conditions, the event was shortened to consist of just a qualification round that became the final scorers for the athletes.

Mathieu calculated a score on just his first run, but it was a strong one. Mathieu totaled a judges' score of 55.67 in the first run, the sixth best score of anyone after round one. After not scoring in the second run, Mathieu ended up being passed and dropped into eighth place.

Boudreau finished with a judges' score of 48.67 in his first run, the 11th best score in the first round. Boudreau also did not register a score in run two, and ended up being passed as he dropped into 13th place.

Billings followed the lead of Mathieu and Boudreau, scoring in the first run before not registering a score in the second run. Billings scored a 45.33 and sat in 15th place after the first run. He ended up getting passed as well as he dropped into 18th place after run two.

Kyle Ingalls (Lewiston, Maine) and Jackson Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine) both also placed for the Beavers, but not being one of the top-three Farmington scorers, did not contribute to the team's overall time. Boudreau scored 43.00 in his first run and earned 22nd place for the competition. Ingalls placed 35th overall with a judges' score of 22.00.

Westminster University earned the Slopestyle National Championship as a team. They were led by Anthony Turco who earned the individual title.
